The beaches that inspired this painting are on the Isle of Skye and are truly this pale pink as they are made of coral rather than sand. Many people wander these beaches and I am interested in this instinct to wander at the water’s edge in all weathers. I put the figure in as a nod to those who love a beach and for myself, so I can imagine myself being there even when I’m far away.
